The Inclusive Green Growth in Egypt (IGGE) initiative is part of a broader programme implemented by UNIDO across several Egyptian governorates. To contribute to the programme’s expansion in terms of geographical coverage and the promotion of sustainable and replicable growth models, the Italian Cooperation is funding the project component implemented in Beni Suef Governorate.
In Beni Suef, the project supports the establishment of a pilot pyrolysis plant designed to enable the controlled conversion of agricultural waste while maximizing the value of its by-products: biochar, syngas, and pyroligneous acid. These are not merely by-products, but valuable marketable resources that can help reduce environmental emissions, create new income-generating opportunities, and reintegrate sustainable materials into the agricultural production cycle.
At the same time, the project provides business development support and specialized advisory services to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) operating along the agricultural and municipal waste value chains, promoting the development of sustainable and circular business models.
