An intensive training visit is currently taking place at CREA (Council for Agricultural Research and Economics) research centre in Foggia, bringing together researchers from Egypt and Italy within the framework of the EU-KAFI programme. The initiative provides an important opportunity for scientific exchange and capacity strengthening in the agri-food sector, fostering collaboration between research institutions in both countries.
Throughout the training programme, participants work side by side in CREA’s laboratories and experimental facilities, gaining access to state-of-the-art scientific infrastructure among the most advanced in the Mediterranean region.
The initiative aims to translate the latest scientific research findings into practical and transferable technical skills, contributing to the development of more sustainable and resilient agri-food systems capable of addressing the challenges posed by food security and climate change.
The training visit also serves as a platform for dialogue and cooperation between the Egyptian and Italian scientific communities, promoting the exchange of knowledge, methodologies, and best practices. By strengthening ties between researchers and institutions, the EU-KAFI programme contributes to building a shared vision for the future of agriculture and innovation across the Mediterranean region.
The EU-KAFI programme is funded by the European Union and implemented by AICS Cairo, with the involvement of CREA and Egypt’s Agricultural Research Center (ARC). The programme aims to strengthen Egypt’s food security by increasing the sustainable and climate-resilient production of cereal crops and reducing post-harvest losses, while placing small and medium-scale farmers at the centre of all interventions.
