The Italian Cooperation in Egypt pays special attention to the area of Education and Technical and Vocational Training (TVET), with the strong commitment to support the Ministry of Education and Higher Education as well the Ministry of Trade and Industries in improving the TVET system in Egypt in order to meet the needs of Egyptian labour market, and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian technicians in regional and global markets. In this context, it is important to mention the successful establishment of a Italian-Egyptian Integrated Technical Education Cluster (ITEC Project) in the sector of electrical and mechanical manufacturing in Fayoum Governorate to create a Pilot Model of Technical Education to serve the industrial sectors of national priority. The ITEC project in Fayoum, funded under the second phase of the Italian-Egyptian Debt Swap Programme, is one of the flagship projects of the Italian cooperation in Egypt. Since its inception, it has been highly dedicated to connecting the professional and technical education system to the private sector, by adapting the educational curricula to the concrete needs of the Egyptian labor market.

Learning from the positive achievements of the ITEC Fayoum, the Italian Cooperation is now ready to support the duplication of this TVET cluster in the city of Abu Ghaleb, in Giza Governorate.

Working towards the same objective, the Italian Cooperation works in partnership with the Don Bosco Institute to enhance the quality of the TVET curricula in Egypt and establish a new Vocational Training Center in the Sharkeya Governorate, being this one of the top-ten Governorates in Egypt that boast the largest number of vulnerable Egyptian youth at risk of leaving Egypt and illegally migrating to other countries.

The project is in line with Egyptian and Italian priorities in the field of social and economic development, and the commitment to build the capacity of the Egyptian youth and promote decent job opportunities in the country. The project is also in line with the Egypt 2030 strategy, most especially the Education and Training Pillar under the Social Dimension, as well as with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals number 4, “Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning, and number 8, “Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all”.
